Holston River, South Fork Description

The South Fork of the Holston is a fairly small river located in SWVA. It is home of the Virginia State record brown trout of over 15lbs. This river has a lot of Spring Fed influence which makes it a super trout fishery. On one section of the South Fork you might fish for rainbows in a fast riffle or go upriver and find Browns sipping on midges while the stream meanders through a meadow. This will be the coolest ...

Techniques & Tips

The South Fork is a great river with many opportunities to fish different techniques. Nymphs, dries, streams the choice is yours. A hopper dropper rig is very effective for this stretch.

7-Day Forecast

Water is low and the fish are spooky. Best bet is to fish early in the AM and leave them be the rest of the day.
