My tips of the week
Whether heading for El Pescador or any other bonefish/permit/tarpon destination, practice casting for a week or 10 days prior to your trip. Work out any winter-induced kinks and be ready when your guide says, "50-feet mon, 11 o'clock."

Moon phase: New Moon (Feb.15th) Sunrise 6:22am Sunset: 5:51pm WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING Bonefish (Macabi): Plenty of Bonefish as the weather improved this week. Several anglers landing five pound fish this week and reaching double digit catch numbers each day. We have had some beautiful weather and it is a welcome site. Looking forward to many more days just like that! Permit (Palometa): Lots of Permit around as well this week. Anglers are getting multiple shots to hungry fish. Jamie, who was fishing for the first time for Permit, managed to get one to eat a live crab which enabled her to catch the most difficult fish of the three species we primarily target on her way to a spinning Grand Slam. Great job Jamie! Danny, who was fishing with Captain Jeo, got it done on fly and landed a twenty pound Permit for his first on fly. Congratulations Danny! Tarpon (Sabalo): Several large Tarpon hooked but not in hand. We've been seeing a lot of Tarpon this week. Jamie, as part of her Grand Slam, hooked two Tarpon and landed one to finish her Grand Slam with Captain Junior. John Way decided to come out of the cold mountains of the US and join us for some Tarpon fishing and was successful and landed one then got one to the leader. Good week for all the species we target! Other Species: Needlefish, Gray Snapper, Mutton Snapper, Ladyfish, Snook Grand Slams: Congratulations to Jamie for her spinning Grand Slam! Flies that worked: Bonefish - Christmas Island Specials in orange, pearl and pink sizes 6 & 8 Permit - Grand Slam Crab, Squimp in size 6&8, Mantis shrimp and Got Tarpon - Red and white, olive, white, red and black, all black and black and purple toads and bunnies continue to work well. The week in review: The week was filled with multiple sightings of Tarpon, Permit and Bonefish and anglers anticipating the tug. The weather cooperated for the most part and allowed our in house guests to have a lot of fun on and off the water. It was a good week! Ken fish@elpescador.com
