Wenatchee River, Washington Fly Fishing Reports & Conditions
My tips of the week
Opens tomorrow 10\16\2013. Access can be tough so plan on walking a fair bit or floating. Water temps are cold so slow down your presentation with a heavier sink tip or dead drifting nymphs and egg patterns.

Fishing Conditions

Fly Fishing Wenatchee River is currently Good

Water flow: 1650 @ Peshastin

Visibility: 59 inches

Water temperature at mid-day: 38 Degrees F

Water condition: Clear

Best time of day to fish: MId morning to evening

Best stretch: The Wenatchee River from the mouth to the Wenatchee River at the Icicle Road Bridge, including the Icicle River from the mouth to 500 feet downstream of the Leavenworth National Fish Hatchery Barrier Dam; Oct.16, 2013 until further notice

Best access point: Get a local map and do not trespass. Low down there are lots of orchards and you need permission. Floathing can be a good option since it will allow access to all the runs.

Fly fishing hatches in order of importance:

Didn't know where to put this so it landed here. For beginning or intermediate switch or two handed rod fishermen--buy a short head for your first line, but then please graduate to a traditional long belly line. Harder to learn on, but when you can cast a 70 foot head versus a 22 foot head, it is a whole lot less stripping in of line and your fly is fishing a full 20% more of the day. Cast 100 feet with a skagit head and at the end of each cast you must strip in 65 feet of fly line before you can recast--wasted time and effort compared to fishing 90 feet of long belly and only needing five or six good strips before initiating your next cast.

Fish species: Steelhead

Fishing season: Opens 10/16/2013

Nearest airport: Wenatchee

Techniques & Tips

This river also has some prime swinging water so a long leader and a weighted fly or shorts sink tip and unweighted fly should also entice some fish.
