Orvis flyfishing schools are the oldest in the country; our experienced instructors have the knowledge to take you to the next level.

Orvis fly fishing schools are offered in nine exciting locations, from Manchester, Vermont, to Evergreen, Colorado, and a host of sites in between. Classes at the Manchester School are taught on our casting pools, in our comfortable classrooms, and on the famed Battenkill River. For two-and-a-half days, under the watchful eyes of our experienced, professional instructors, you'll learn casting techniques, essential knots, how to choose your gear and tackle, stream entomology, proper fly selection, how to read water, and how to land fish. Your casting strokes will be videotaped and analyzed by the instructors and their critical feedback will help you improve your technique.

What do former students have to say about Orvis flyfishing schools?

"I cannot speak highly enough of the skills that I was taught or of the facilities and equipment that were made available," said Dean Hernandez. "Anyone, from the beginner to the experienced, will learn good habits and unlearn bad ones. You will leave the school with a new appreciation for the art and sport of fly fishing." Whether it's a birthday gift to your favorite fisherman, a family affair, or a solitary fishing retreat, anyone serious about the art of fly fishing will benefit from classes at our nine flyfishing schools.

Breathtaking locations and highly skilled instructors are a feature of all Orvis flyfishing schools. In Hot Springs, Virginia, anglers can relax on 15,000 acres in the Allegheny Mountains, a sportsmen's playground that has been drawing visitors since the 18th century. In this area, renowned for its natural hot springs and historic ambience, anglers will fish the Cascades Stream, a private trout stream accented by a series of breathtaking, 20-foot-high waterfalls that offers a magnificent challenge to both novice and experienced anglers.

In >Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, sportsmen will develop the requisite skills necessary to fish the West's most famous trout waters, which gives them the ability to fish anywhere in the world. Other Orvis flyfishing schools are located on the scenic Cape Cod seashore; in the Ozark Mountains near the 10,000-acre Dogwood Canyon Nature Park and Branson, Missouri; at Grand Traverse Resort and Spa, Michigan; in Kokler, Wisconsin; and at the famed Sandanona Sporting Grounds in New York.

A passion for fly fishing schools

After attending one of our schools in Branson, Missouri, alumnus Harold Murray noted, "A few hours with a good teacher can change something that is just 'OK' into something that can become a passion. After only a couple of hours, I realized [Keith Oxby] is a great teacher who loves to teach fly fishing. I was counting on golf to carry me into old age, but now I can add fly fishing."

Since opening the first American school in 1966 in Manchester, Vermont, Orvis flyfishing schools have made a practice of offering outstanding instruction in the art and craft of fly fishing. It's a natural complement to our comprehensive line of well-known fly fishing equipment and clothing.
