| Orvis has been in the Perkins family since 1965, and even before we owned Orvis, our family tradition was imbued with the sporting life for generations. It has allowed us to hunt in some pretty amazing places all over the world. Hunting and fishing as much as we do has also enabled us to discover and develop gear that we’re truly proud to offer to you and own ourselves. In fact, we usually get some pretty great product ideas from each other and our fellow sportsmen when we’re in the field. |

Camo XT Waders, Waterproof/Breathable Chaps, Safe Passage and Most Secure 2-Gun Case
Our goal is to get our gear and clothing absolutely right; I mean absolutely right. It’s a high bar to clear and it’s worth crowing about particular gear that really nails it. Here are just a few pieces of hunting gear I think you'll particularly love using.
The Camo XT Felt Lined Waders
I’ve been waiting all my life for these waders. We have had them on and off the product development table several times in the last 10 years. Recently, technology and ingenuity rewarded our perseverance. They’re absolutely right.
The removable felt liners are the greatest insulating system for warmth and comfort. Remove them to dry at day’s end and your boots aren’t damp the next morning—huge plus. Our proven, speed-lace wader system gives support when wading on mucky bottoms, and I love the lightweight top. I fold it down for waist-highs and two big advantages: you can relieve yourself without removing your jacket and there’s no uncomfortable suspenders getting in the way. When you retrieve deep decoys, pull up the top to armpit height. The best.
Waterproof Breathable Chaps
I really put these through their paces to make sure they held up and went the distance. Boy, did they. These are the best chaps by far that I have ever worn: durable, waterproof, and breathable they’re made of the same material as our top end waders. And they’re lightweight. I love briar pants for fair conditions,
but I would never be without a good pair of chaps. They’re so versatile; and when the conditions are really nasty for upland gunning, you can’t beat these.
Safe Passage Duffle Case and Most Secure 2-Gun Case
I travel a lot with a shotgun and have found no better system than our Safe Passage Duffle Case and our Most Secure 2-Gun Case. I prefer to check my guns in a concealed gun case. The attendants at the check-in counters often remark at what a great system this is. The Duffle Case is also my go-to luggage for fishing. It keeps clothes in the separate “suitcase’’ compartment away from my waders, vest and gear. Entirely redesigned, rugged but lightweight,
each saves you weight, important now that airlines charge for 50+ lb. bags.

Orvis Upland Classic Over/Under 28-Gauge Shotgun
Recently, I borrowed one from an Orvis School to use at our quail hunting lodges in Georgia. I could not believe how well I shot this gun over the six other shotguns I own. A 28-gauge is perfect for quail but there was something else too; its balance and weight allowed it to swing so well and the Prince of Wales grip made it handle so nicely. It was a pleasure to shoot. It's truly a gun I would be proud to own or give.
Uplander Shooting Gloves
I have every shooting glove Orvis has sold, but I alwasy go for this pair. I like the natural grain of the leather, the rugged yet supple feel. And they form to your hand the more you wear them, which makes them comfortable and keeps your fingers nimble.
HiDefSpex Shooting Glasses
These Glasses are the best shooting glasses I have ever worn, bar none. Every shooting instructor will tell you that focusing on the bird is the most important thing you can do to improve your shooting. You will notice right off, the greater clarity and contrast these glasses offer when you first put them on. This is critical for focusing on the bird or target and improving your shooting. HiDefSpex are also very lightweight and made of, literally, bulletproof lens material, for the best eye protection anywhere. Try them and start hitting more birds and targets yourself.
The Strap Vest
Complements the Ventile Upland Pants perfectly. The two together make a great lightweight combination that keeps me cooler and more comfortable. I can layer underneath the vest, too, without bulkiness. And its easy spring closure pockets are great to store gloves and glasses separate from my shells.
The Gokey Wetlanders
are by far my favorite all-around upland boots. They’re so lightweight, I can hunt in them all day. They’re rugged, too, and 100% waterproof; and I mean 100% waterproof. This is the go-to boot for hunting from New England to Georgia to
Montana.
