Orvis Answer Center
Welcome to the Orvis Answer Center for Backordered Items Questions! You'll find the answers to our most frequently asked questions about backordered Orvis merchandise.
How can I tell if a product is on backorder?
If an item is on backorder and there are multiple colors or sizes from which to select, the ship date appears to the right of the "Quantity" label when you make your selection of color or size. It looks similar to the following example.
When you place that item in your shopping cart, the ship date for the backordered item appears in red and looks similar to the following example.
When you view your shopping cart, you will see the ship date of the backordered item displayed again, located next to the "Status" label, as seen in the example below.
How can I check the status of my backordered item?
To check the status of a backordered item, use our Track Order Status feature. You can use this feature to track the status of active and shipped orders, as well as orders that contain backordered items. If you give us your email address when you place your order, we will notify via email if the status of your backordered item changes.
Backorder date: the shipping or delivery date?
The backorder date refers to the date the item will be shipped. From that point, the time you receive your item from the ship date will depend on the original shipping method you chose for your order.
Also, please allow additional delivery time if your item was personalized; most personalization requires an additional 2 to 5 days for delivery.
Separate shipping fee for different backorders?
No. Additional shipping will not be charged when a backordered item results in two shipments for the same order.
When will my card be charged for backorders?
Orvis does not collect payment from your credit or debit card until the order has shipped.
