Since 1989, Orvis has maintained stringent criteria each lodge must live up to in order to be endorsed. These three key criteria are resources, hospitality, and the lodge itself. To make certain these standards are met, each lodge is visited by an Orvis associate. This allows for a first-hand evaluation, so we know personally what you can expect on your visit. In the case of Deer Creek, we found it goes above and beyond to create an overall experience deserving of the 2007 Orvis-Endorsed Wingshooting Lodge of the Year Award. The guests who stayed and hunted there in 2006 agree with us.

Deer Creek did not evolve overnight—it was borne of passion…and dedication…and relentless determination. The history of Deer Creek’s core property can be traced back to the 1840s when Captain James R. “Cap” Stull purchased a parcel in the hills four miles west of Sebree, KY. In 1978, after each generation had purchased land until it comprised of 14,000 acres, the original 365-acre core property was founded as a commercial hunting operation by Tim Stull, the club’s manager and the great-great grandson of Cap Stull. Thus, evolved Deer Creek Lodge. Today, all 14,000 acres are offered to Deer Creek guests.

Here, deer, upland game birds, waterfowl, wild turkeys, and a variety of small game species flourish. This wildlife-rich environment has enabled Deer Creek to attain recognition as a worldwide hunting destination.

Deer Creek has now gained global renown for its one-fee, “no limit” wing shooting forays for upland game birds and its unique offering of free-ranging mallards. Feature articles depicting the club’s various opportunities have appeared in The Double Gun Journal, Shooting Sportsman, Gray’s Sporting Journal, Sporting Classics, and many others, including the esteemed Bird Hunting Report. Several nationally-televised outdoor shows and commercial videos have portrayed the club’s unsurpassed wing shooting opportunities as well. In 2001, these various distinctions resulted in the lodge receiving the highly celebrated Wingshooting Lodge Endorsement by ORVIS, a seal of approval. Now, Deer Creek has the high esteem of being chosen Orvis-Endorsed Wingshooting Lodge of the Year. And well-deserved, too.
