The latest addition to the Purdey over-and-under range, the Sporter maintains the high standards of quality and attention to detail for which Purdey is synonymous. Equally suited for sporting clays or driven shoots, the Sporter offers all of the handling and performance characteristics of a true Purdey, but thanks to advanced precision machining processes, comes at a more affordable price than Purdey’s hand-built, bespoke range of guns.

This special gun shares its ancestry with early twentieth-century designs of over-and-unders by such notable makers as Boss, Woodward, and Edwinson Green. These designs influenced several other gunmakers, most notably the Italian firm of Perazzi.

Brescia gunmaker Perugini & Visini produced an improved version of the Perazzi design in 1968, and in 2005 joined with Purdey, implementing further design changes and improvements. The result was the Purdey Sporter.

This long-established shotgun design has been extensively re-engineered to take advantage of Purdey’s advanced CNC machining technology. The essential components are manufactured in the Purdey factory and are shipped to Brescia, where Perugini & Visini insert the barrels in the monoblocks, fit Purdey high-grade walnut stocks, and hand-engrave the large scroll-and-ribbon design. The guns are then returned to Purdey for proofing, regulating, and final hand finishing.

The Purdey Sporter is the ultimate blending of state-of-the-art gunmaking technology and traditional hand craftsmanship. Built to extremely fine tolerances to ensure long-term mechanical integrity, strength, and reliable service for generations to come, the Sporter is a true Purdey, and a gun that shoots as well as it looks.
