    I find this story very disturbing. Why did it take a vet to discover the chip. Why are these shelters not checking for the chips. I would thing the first thing they would do is check for a chip or an ID tag so they can return the dog to the owner and get the dog out of the shelter system. You go to the trouble of chipping your dog thinking that it would help get the dog back if lost and then you hear a story like this and it is very upsetting. That poor dog was very lucky it made it home. What can be done to correct this problem? Do we need legislation to get these ignorant shelter to do the job of returning dog ASAP to their owners.
