A painter in Centralia, Washington is using her talent to help abused rescue dogs find new families. For the artist, it’s a cause that hits close to home. Hallie is a rescued 13-year-old long-haired dachshund who lost her eyesight in 2011. But that hasn’t stopped her from using her special talent to raise money for local pups. Hallie’s owner, Dee Dee Murry, rescued Hallie from a shelter and taught her how to paint a couple of years ago. Her artistic creations have been a huge success and sales have steadily increased, which is good news for area rescue pups. Every dollar Hallie’s paintings generate goes directly to the Purple Heart Rescue, a nonprofit that helps abandoned and abused dogs. Last year, she raised over $15,000. King 5 News covered the story.

“I’m her biggest fan,” said Deb Harp, who helps rehabilitate the rescue dogs at Purple Heart Rescue. “I can’t even tell you how many lives she’s touched.”

Hallie’s paintings are defined as “abstract impressions,” and generally consist of a colorful collage of dabs and short brush strokes. But of course, she doesn’t exactly work for free.

“She paints faster the better the treat is,” said Dee Dee.
