Video: A Dog Expert’s View of Dog Park Behavior

Written by: Phil Monahan

Here’s an interesting report from WGNTV in Chicago about how dogs behave in off-leash dog parks. For many people, time at the special park allows “dogs to be dogs,” and owners don’t need to get too involved. But dog behavior expert Sue Sternberg argues that such an attitude can be downright dangerous.

Years of study have proven to Sternberg that dogs require human intervention to correct their behavior with other dogs. Otherwise, dogs can be bullied, harrassed, or even killed. She has several important recommendations for owners, who should provide guidance when things become inappropriate. Sternberg also claims that a dog who is out of control in the park is more likely to be difficult to control, as well.

What do you think?
