Weekend Reading for October 28, 2011

Flyfishers Inc

If you’re not spending the weekend on the water or in the woods, here are some great pieces of writing to help you relax and pass the time. First, check out the latest issue of Flyfishers Inc, an online publication from New Zealand. Most of the content is focused on early-season fishing, since their spring fishing is just getting underway. For eye candy, there are tons of great shots of brown and rainbow trout cruising, feeding, and being cradled by happy anglers.

Over on Midcurrent.com, there’s an excellent long interview with famed keys angler Stu Apte by current tarpon-fishing superstar Andy Mill. They cover a lot of ground, especially when it comes to the history of casting flies at tarpon in the Keys. The story of Joe Brooks’s world-record fish is especially interesting.

Finally, in an era when anything longer than a soundbite gets lost in the mix and most product reviews are under 150 words, it’s nice to see someone take the time to really explore the features and uses of a piece of equipment. Tom Chandler (of Trout Underground fame) really kicks the tires and checks under the hood of the Orvis Superfine Touch 8′ 4wt Small Stream Fly Rod.
