Friday Fly-Fishing Film Festival 05.31.13

Welcome to a new edition of the Orvis News Friday Fly-Fishing Film Festival, in which we scour the Web for the best fly-fishing videos available. We have a killer selection this week, sixteen videos that will take you around the world.

For best results, watch all videos at full-screen and in high definition. Remember, we surf so you don’t have to. But if you do stumble upon something great that you think is worthy of inclusion in a future FFF, please post it in the comments below. And don’t forget to check in regularly at The Tug, the Orvis online video theater. See you next week with a fresh set of films!

We kick things off with a gorgeous video from France. Angler Marc Millerioux fishes a small, tangled river and lands some beautiful brown trout.

Staying in Europe, let’s move to the Austrian Alps, where former Orvis rod designer Matt Calderaro works some high-country streams for native trout. He seems to have the place to himself.

This video for a guide service in Louisiana earns the title “sizzle reel” for its cool aerial shots and great editing. The big redfish are pretty nice, as well.

In case you missed it earlier this week, here is Sharptail Media‘s killer video about the new Orvis Women’s Silver Sonic Waders, featuring a few of our badass female anglers from here in the office.

This video of guides of Argentine Patagonia tearing up the post season features tons of amazing scenery and some of the fattest trout you’ll ever see.

Based on the script, this is from Russia. Who knew they love the Boss over there? Anyway, it’s a really beautiful video of some idyllic angling.

A few guides had a chance to hit the water on their days off and really took advantage of the famed salmonfly hatch on the Henrys Fork in Idaho.

This one is kind of long, but it really captures the traveling-angler lifestyle. Lots of beautiful casting shots, as well as some good browns.

Chris Lewis of Skinny Water Culture is back with some cool footage of catching a permit from his stand up paddleboard. It’s amazing what a stable angling platform it provides.

I love me some good golden dorado video, and this one puts you in the raft, as these powerful fish take to the air. This is a species near the top of my bucket list.

As far as self-shot videos go, this one featuring Kahurangi National Park in New Zealand is pretty darned good. There are some cool hookups and the kinds of fish you expect from Kiwiland.

We featured some photos of Owyhee River trout earlier today, and here’s some video to go along with it.

I dig the underwater footage in this video from Slovenia, where the crystal clear water makes for perfect filming conditions. I also love the fact that one guy’s name is “Super Fred.”

Not much bonefish video available this week, but here’s some cool stuff from Turks and Caicos that really captures the experience of both wading and casting from a flats boat.

This long but enjoyable video features unbelievable production values. Just check out the credits, for Pete’s sake. I think it’s from Italy, but I’m not sure. Anyone have a better idea? Spain?

Finally, here’s a wonderful 22-minute video from Camille Egdorf, who practically grew up at a fly-fishing lodge in the Alaska bush. She set out to document all that goes on at such an operation, and she nailed it.

Have a great weekend, and we’ll see you next week with another great set of videos!

      Hi Capkirk.
Thanks for liking my filming. The thing Matthew is putting up to his nose is austrian snuff tobacco.
In Bavaria and Austria this has a long tradition. Matt is a passionist and if he´s out on the water he always is looking for some specials that makes this day perfect. So this time we´ve carried the rapsberry snuff with us.
Hope you understand that. My English is terrible, I´m sorry for that.
      Cheers….

    Orvis Team,

Please check out and consider the film that my buddy, Whit Lacks, and I just recently put together. It’s a film that I’m sure all fly fishermen can relate to in that the film is about the emotional release you feel when we’re able to escape the stress of the daily grind and retreat to our favorite spot where it’s just you, the river, and the fish. This film tells that story, and I truly believe it reflects the values, ethics, and beliefs that Orvis prides itself in. Please check it out!

    Thanks!
