Kim has a habit of catching the best fish of the trip, no matter where she is.

Our office manager/guide Kim Lawson and I found some time to take a road trip to upstate New York in search of some steelhead. It is a trip we have been meaning to do for several years now, so we hopped in our campervan and headed up to Oak Orchard Creek in western New York. We both caught some beautiful fish, but as she did on our last steelhead trip in Alaska, Kim landed the best of the day with a beastly male. Even better, she did it with the first pair of waders that as she says, “don’t fit like a giant trash bag”, her Women’s Silver Sonics!

Just got back from the Oak Saturday. No steelies but browns in 10 to 12 lb range and a number of 40 inch salmon. Mike and Dan at the Clarendon Orvis store fixed me up with new sonics also and they were just perfect! Took most of my fish on 6mm yellow and orange soft eggs I tied for this trip. What did you get your steelie on?

We were catching them on small egg patterns. We were hoping for some big browns but only hooked one big one.
