I’m spending the week traveling around southwestern Montana with my colleague Tom Evenson, Orvis Western ELOG Director, visit a few endorsed lodges. After leaving my house in Vermont at 4 a.m. to catch an early flight out of Albany, I made it to Bozeman by 10:30 in the morning, which is kind of amazing. Tom came in from Idaho a few minutes later, and we headed down the Gallatin River. After a bit of fishing and a quick stop at Lone Mountain Ranch in Big Sky, we continued south and caught a boat across Hebgen Lake to Firehole Ranch.
On our first evening, during dinner, we were treated to a spectacular sunset. Oncoming thunderheads and a little rain added cool effects, and the light show kept changing and evolving, as guests crowded on the back deck to take photos. Tom grabbed his DSLR and shot the remarkable images here. These are right off the camera, with no PhotoShopping and no filters added.
