I had a great year chasing cutthroats in the high-country, so I thought I would head up to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness of Minnesota and try my hand at some smallmouth and northern pike fishing. This would be my fifth trip to the land of 10,000 lakes, and my friend Randy was making his sixth appearance.
We paddled and portaged and fished a handful of lakes and caught some nice fish—including my first pike on the fly. After six days, it was time to paddle out, but we still had a free afternoon before heading home so we hiked up the Brule River and did some trout fishing. Not a bad way to spend the first week of October!
