Jackie's Brown

Jackie Jordan, an assistant art director here at Orvis, landed this whopper
on Saturday while fishing New York’s Salmon River.

A couple months ago, I spent a lunch hour down at the Orvis pond with Jackie Jordan, one of our assistant art directors, and “guided” her to her first ever fish on a fly rod—a six-inch largemouth. Skip ahead to last weekend, and Jackie’s using a switch rod to cast a light-peach egg pattern on the Salmon River in Upstate New York, when she lays into something substantial. It turns out to be a 27-inch, lake-run brown trout. That’s not bad progress, eh? I just hope she doesn’t expect things to keep going upward at this rate. If so, she’ll have to catch a marlin by next summer.
