Take the Phil Monahan Fly-Fishing Trivia Challenge 08.22.13

Written by: Phil Monahan

Welcome to another edition of our trivia challenge, where we test your knowledge of all things fly fishing and where you might learn a thing or two about this sport we love.

The last quiz was definitely on the difficult side, as there were NO perfect scores and just three 90%s (congrats to Richard, Garrett, and Justin). That hasn’t happened in a while.

As usual, the randomly chosen winner of this week’s quiz will receive a signed copy of Tom’s book The Orvis Guide to Small Stream Fly Fishing. This is a great book for anyone who loves getting off the beaten path and chasing blue lines. It provides all the information for finding and fishing unspoiled gems found everywhere from wilderness areas to suburban backyards. Last week’s book winner (as determined by random.org) was Troutsneak, whose score was not something to brag about but who still gets a free, signed book just for commenting.

So, take this week’s quiz, and no matter how well or poorly you do, post your score in the comments below to be eligible to win Tom’s book with his inspirational words on the title page.

Good luck!

Who’s that guy on the right?

I got 70%…even though it said 60%???? Three wrong is 70% where I went to school. Crazy Reese? Crazy Eddie? Or maybe it was Crazy Charlie…They all sound crazy to me!

    You scored 70%!!
Planning a trip to Yellowstone next year, so I knew Buffalo Ford. Otherwise, I thought it might be a car dealership in New York.
Also, I associated Whistler with British Columbia..oh well, there’s always next week…

70%. Thought of the Oregon Trail for the Buffalo Ford question. “Do you want to ford the river or caulk it and float it across.” Hilarious!

70% and the only answer I had complete confidence in was about the reach cast. Apparently there are people fishing places other than the northeastern trout creeks.

Well, a 50% is way better than last time. And any quiz that includes Hank Patterson and his sidekick is just awesome!

Not sure how knowing Crazy Reese’s identity will help my fly fishing (certainly not as much as a reach cast) but I guess that’s why it’s a trivia contest.
    Thanks for the diversion.
