Midges are great winter flies because these tiny insects hatch year round in all kinds of water. The Disco Midge is obviously named for its flashy, flamboyant appearance, which definitely attracts trout looking for a meal.
Here’s another video tying lesson from Tim Flagler of Tightline Productions, who offers his usual grab bag of tying tricks. If you’ve got fat fingers and hate dealing with tiny hooks, Tim has you covered.
Hook: Emerger hook (e.g.Daiichi #125), sizes 18-24.
Bead: Midge size glass bead.
Thread/Underbody: Fluorescent pink, 8/0 or 70-denier.
Collar: Peacock herl.
Note: Try with different color thread.
And, just because I can, here’s some real disco. Enjoy.
