Size matters -

I am writing the review ahead of giving the rating because I can't decide. I really liked this jacket and the sale price was worthy of a look despite bad reviews. Those reviews were all based the sizing problem with Barbour garments. I normally order a LG and did so in this case. I ended up returning it. XL would have worked. The quality and look of the jacket is great.

Good quality but these jackets run small to size for US customers
Outstanding Jacket -

The Barbour coat is a wonderful product. For here it's about all you need (with the optional lining for the really cold days). It's fully rain repellant - even hard, steady rain. (The optional hood is nice then.) I am not a rep for Barbour, but I could be. We all wear them.
A slim fit jacket for slim people. -

I am what another reviewer described as a "toothpick". Tall, skinny, long arms. It is very difficult for me to find jackets that fit as perfectly as this one does. The jacket feels great on me. It allows minimal layering underneath, and I'm not planning on wearing it when it gets cold. To me this is an early fall fall late spring wet weather jacket. The quality is amazing, and I am very happy with the support that I got when trying it out in the store. I love the little flaps on the cuffs that are made to keep the water out, details like that always please me. Everything feels right. Definitely try this on before ordering it online. I'm 6'5", usually wear medium/large shirts, have wide shoulders, long slim torso, and long skinny arms.
Barbour's weird sizing -
By: Stan19 from NYC
I was all ready to purchase this jacket. More so when it went on sale. I don't know where Barbour comes up with it's sizing. This jacket will not fit anybody with a normal physique. I have a Barbour International as well as the International Steve McQueen 9665. The Ouston is ridiculously small. I'm 5'6" and 150 lbs. I usually wear a medium. The 9665 was a large. I couldn't zip the Ouston closed in a large. The XL fit but, the sleeves were way too long. So, unless your a toothpick, this jacket will not fit you. Too bad, as it was perfect for riding my scooter in warmer weather. I can't recommend it nor, give it more than one star.

Let me first say that I love Barbour jackets and currently own the Barbour International Motorcycle Jacket and the Terrence. The Ouston is an insult to the Barbour name. It just feels cheap. Everything about it is a letdown from the Barbour quality of which I'm accustomed. Additionally, if you're wondering why the "dark gray" Ouston looks like tan...well, that's because it IS tan. It's not light gray, medium gray, or dark gray. It's tan.
Not worthy of Barbour -

First of all, the Orvis description of the Ouston is off. It is no, in any way, dark grey. It is khaki. Next, as someone who has owned 5 Barbour jackets, the Ouston is not worthy of the Barbour name. The fit, while supposed to be trim, is far too trim. 10-15% trimmer than my other Barbour International fitted jackets. The finishing is beneath Barbour. Cheap zipper. Cheaper-than-normal zipper pull. Cheap wrist closures. To sum it up, spend the extra $150 and get yourself into a real Barbour. Having said all of this, I am die hard Barbour fan and will stick with the brand.
Since 1894, England's J. Barbour & Sons have produced clothes perfectly suited to life in the country. Their quality, durable clothing is cut for an active lifestyle and the fit varies according to each garment's design and purpose.
The sizing of Barbour’s clothing is divided into three segments:
In the case of Barbour outerwear, sizing takes into account the appropriate layers beneath. That means you do not need to order a size up for a comfortable fit.
