A disappointment -
By: CTChris from CT
Got this kit after requesting it as a gift, ready to start tying my own flies. What you get: A basic set of tools - good enough for a beginner. No problem here, seem decent quality) A basic tying lesson book - again, no problem, most of the flies won't be super helpful to me in the Northeast but diversity enhances your skills. A bunch of threads, feathers, tinsel, hooks, etc. - where the problem starts.... Half the flies in the book ask for materials that aren't in the package! I get that it's a basic set but don't give me a lesson book and materials that don't match anything more challenging that a San Juan or a Woolly Bugger As a rule I love Orvis gear, it's reliable and effective. This kit was the first time I think I've ever felt let down by them.

Great Gift for Grandson -
By: WendyLee7 from Hatboro, PA
Purchased this product as a gift for my grandson, who immediately upon opening got his pappy to help him tie a fly, and he was estatic, went home and set up his desk for future tying projects. It was neat, organized and fully equipped for immediate use. I would recommend this product for any and all future fly tyiers of the world.

So So Kit -
I wasn't expecting perfection in a beginner's kit, but I was expecting more. The vise I got is utterly disappointing! The one in my kit is rusted, and the jaws have casting defects to include blobs on the jaw faces that keep them from closing. The vise in the picture is NOT the one I got. The included tools and materials, however, seem to be pretty good for an introductory kit. If I had it to do over, I probably would have gone with the more expensive kit since I've already had to upgrade the vise.
Ok but need to upgrade things -

I was looking into starting fly tying and didn't know where to go until I found the "Clearwater" starter kit. After researching the internet and viewing a number of you-tube videos it was a no brainier, it has the right stuff to do the right job.

this kit is great for beginners! it really does have everything you need in it. Some of the materials were not of the highest quality but I still loved the kit.
