I attended the class in Vermont with very limited shooting experience. The personal one on one and group instruction was great and I learned a ton. Very hands on and I shot a lot of rounds and even hit some clays. Definitely go in the Fall if possible...the area is beautiful.
The Best! -

I just finished the 2 day school in Manchester led by Head Wing Shooting Instructor Bruce Bowlen. The entire experience was fabulous! Bruce is a patient and masterful instructor and will diagnose your flaws and help you to work out positive correction. He did so with me and I am ecstatic with the outcome. I cannot imagine a more competent teacher. Not only is Bruce a terrific teacher - he's a great guy. My shotgun had an ejector problem and he personally walked it into the Orvis gunsmith during lunch for a diagnosis. It is now on its' way to being repaired - thanks to him. The attention to gun safety is commendable and the carefully designed course provides simulated shots that will multiply your confidence in the field. You'll love the 'grouse walk'! On top of the personalized shooting instruction, the one-on-one gun fitting revealed that my present field gun is off by only 1/8" for one measurement. Not enough to be an issue so now I can't blame an ill fitting gun for misses. It's great to know my personal measurements so new acquisitions will take them into account. If you're a serious wing shooter - you owe it to yourself to take the 2 day course. Your hunting companions will wonder how you've become so proficient since last season. Only tell them after they nickname you 'top gun'.

I just attended the two-day program in Manchester. Bruce Bowlen is a fabulous shooting instructor, and does an excellent job developing one's shooting skills over the course of the program. He does not overwhelm with technical details and is very focused on building up the shooter's confidence. Bruce also did a nice job tailoring the instruction to fit a planned hunting trip later this fall. Both my friend and I significantly improved our shooting over the course of two days. If you want to improve your field shooting skills (and who doesn't), this is an excellent program.
Great experience -
I just completed the Orvis Wingshooting School in Manchester, Vt and had a great time. All of the instructors were very knowledgeable and patient. They conveyed the shooting techniques in a straight forward style that was understandable. The atmosphere was relaxed, which led to a good learning experience. It will take some practice to undo a lifetime of bad shooting habits, but I feel that I now have the foundation to do so. I plan on attending another school to reinforce my learning, and have convinced my wife to accompany me and start shooting herself. Thanks Bruce, John and Kyle!
Excellent wingshooting course -

My husband and I signed up for a 2-day course in Manchester (September 2009). I am a beginner to shooting but have 3 young French Brittany pointers. Before the course, I rarely hit a clay and never successfully hit a pheasant. The course with our instructors--Bruce, Lars, and Conrad--was wonderful. I gained confidence handling a shotgun and significantly improved my shot during the course. The instructors were patient, constructive, and extremely talented at teaching the highly diverse students. I particularly liked rotating among instructors and shooting stations so I gained a range of excellent feedback and shooting opportunities. I was also delighted to have the Orvis staff modify my shotgun to the individual measurements taken during the course. I highly endorse this course and would eagerly repeat it next fall. On my first hunting trip after the course (with my new confidence, experience, and properly fitted shotgun), I proudly shot my first pheasant. Thank you!
