Tuition includes comprehensive instruction, lunches, and use of Orvis fly tackle.
Note: Because of the heavier tackle used at the Orvis South Carolina Fly Fishing School, we strongly recommend that students be at least 12 years old.

Teaching Old dogs New Tricks -
By: GESTL from STLMO
Captain Dave is one heck of an instructor! I recently completed his 2 day class. He is highly skilled and patient as he tried to break me of my old bait casting habits. His class combines classroom knowledge and field application. If you are just getting in to fly fishing, this class will be extremely helpful. If you already have some basic skills, you will certainly improve with his coaching. The class is worth every penny and you'll get to spend 2 days with one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet!
Excellent Class -

Just finished the 2-day class with Captain Dave Murray. It was a small class, so the one-on-one guidance was incredibly helpful in honing casting technique, answering questions and presenting relevant information. Captain Dave is a world class instructor, and one of the nicest people you'll ever meet. He's truly passionate about what he does. Definitely worth every penny.
Okatie 2-day Fly Fishing School -
By: SCMike2015 from Okatie South Carolina
AN OUTSTANDING CLASS for both beginners and seasoned fly fishers. Instructors Capt. Dave Murray and John Holbrook put their heart and soul in making this both an informative and enjoyable class. Each segment taught was followed with a personal story which brought it from a video presentation to a real life experience. The sharing and caring given by both during this class in my opinion is what made it a success. I would recommend this class given by these to instructors to anyone interested in fly fishing. Thank you both for a job well done.
Excellent 2 Days -
Fly fishing been on my bucket list for years. The 2 day fly fish program was money well spent. Dave Murray and Joe Holebrook were great teachers as well as colorful characters. Maybe I zoned out, but felt there should have been more teaching on hauling the fly line.

Okatie 2 day Orvis school -
By: Archerm83 from Okatie, SC
What a great school. Being a first time flycaster I can definitely say this was the best school I could have attended. Im from the Beaufort area and the redfishing here in the Lowcountry is up there with the best in the country. With that being said we also have some of the best flyfishers and instructors to choose from. You can definitely tell the Orvis instructor Owen Plair is very passionate about flyfishing and he gives 110% to those that want to learn this sport. There was only one other student in my class as it was in the middle of January and we got one on one attention for sure. I not only finished the school being able to double haul, but I also feel the techniques Owen shared with us will last a lifetime. Will you be a professional flyfisherman after the class probably not, but you will have the fundamentals of flycasting to practice on your own and continually improve upon. Thank you Owen and Orvis for such a great school!
Saltwater Fly Fishing School, Okatie, SC -
This is one of the best schools I've attended. Dave Murray is a fine teacher and storyteller, and while there may be other instructors as good as Dave, there are none better! There is ample time to learn and practice casting, including fishing a pond on the final day. The setting for the class is quite nice, and getting several of Dave's virtual fly rods, and being taught how to use them to improve your casting is worth the tuition by itself. Great class!
Summer School Fun -
By: Orioles1983 from Wilmington,N.C.
The Orvis Fly Fishing school in Okatie was a great experience.Captain Dave Murray is an excellent instructor who made both classroom and lakeside casting sessions fun.The student to instructor ratio is 4 to 1 allowing plenty of time for individual attention and discussion of fly fishing techniques. As a beginner in the sport ,I graduated feeling confident that I can head to the water with a fly rod now instead of my spinning rod and continue to improve with the exercises Dave taught us.Captain Murray has vast experience in fresh and saltwater fly fishing, and I chose this Orvis site due to its discussion of saltwater techniques,as I live near a similar area.I was happy with the material covered, and I feel the freshwater enthusiast would also be satisfied with the course.Facilities were beautiful, equipment top notch, and instructor superior -a true Orvis experience.
Husband Wife Get Away -
By: RussellScott from Lincolnton GA
My wife of 28 years and I just returned from a fantastic weekend at the Orvis Okatie fly casting school. Our instructor was over the top. He broke each step down to its simplest element without boring anybody. Our class was small and we were each attended to. I consider myself a novice fly caster at best and I learned something every hour were there.
best ever -
