Details

Experience the upland hunting of yesteryear on thousands of private and public acres of pristine wild forest in the Catskill Mountains of New York. Hunt wild grouse and woodcock along the old bluestone walls, abandoned farms and apple orchards. Follow the bells of our expertly trained English Setters to flush rates that generally exceed expectations. These are not leisurely preserve hunts and are not for the faint of heart as the cover is thick and you will be walking miles in a day's hunt. Only 2½ hours outside of New York City. Rick Watson can arrange to pick you up and drop you back off at local train station making this a convenient trip for those that live in the city.

Region/Terrain Where You Hunt

Our hunts for wild grouse and woodcock are generally flat to rolling uneven terrain in thick cover. This is a challenging hunt and busting through heavy brush is not uncommon. That being said once you experience the romance of perusing the "King of Game Birds" it becomes addictive.

Typical Weather by Season

Weather can vary drastically throughout the season. Most important is a comfortable water resistant pair of boots. Rain and cold weather gear is also a must.
