Billing & Payment
Welcome to the Orvis Answer Center for Billing & Payment Questions! You'll find the answers to our most frequently asked questions about billing and payments.
What types of credit cards does Orvis accept?
Orvis accepts American Express, Visa, MasterCard, Discover/Novus, and existing PayPal® accounts for online purchases.
You can also apply for Instant Credit with the Orvis Rewards Visa Card. You'll receive free standard shipping on all Orvis orders, plus earn rewards points everywhere you shop—three points/dollar at Orvis, one point/dollar everywhere else.
If you elect to send in your order by mail, Orvis also accepts checks or money orders in US currency.
Is it safe for me to pay by credit card?
Very safe. Orvis not only employs the latest web encryption standards (SSL) but also maintains our own secure servers in-house. This means no one but Orvis handles your credit card information. When you make a purchase, request a catalog, or create an account on our website, your transaction is transmitted in a safe, encrypted format. We maintain the data you provide, along with a record of your purchases, in a secure database.
Does Orvis use VeriSign for online transactions?
Yes! All online payments on the Orvis website are handled by VeriSign. VeriSign, Inc. is the world's leading Internet Certification Authority, the trusted third party that authenticates, issues, and manages digital certificates on the Internet. Its dedication, industry-leading practices, and highly-secure facilities are trusted by millions of VeriSign Digital ID holders.
I paid by credit card and would like a refund.
If proof of payment is provided with a return, then a refund will be issued to the credit card you used for the original purchase. If proof of payment isn’t available, a refund will be issued in the form of an Orvis Gift Card for the lowest sale price.
Does Orvis have a credit card?
Yes. You can apply for Instant Credit with the Orvis Rewards® Visa Card. You'll receive free standard shipping on all Orvis orders, plus earn rewards points everywhere you shop—three points/dollar at Orvis, one point/dollar everywhere else.
Duplicate credit card charges
This scenario usually happens when someone uses a debit card to pay for their order, but it can also happen with credit card purchases. When Orvis contacts a bank or credit card company electronically to verify that funds are available, your bank or credit card company may remove or set aside the necessary funds to cover the order for a period of up to five business days. Orvis does not collect payment until the order has shipped.
When Orvis then actually processes a charge to the card, that first “pre-authorization” charge should automatically be removed, but occasionally there is a delay, resulting in two transactions of differing amounts on your statement. Orvis will do everything we can to help you resolve this situation. Unfortunately, banks and credit card companies will not allow us to take care of this for you directly, because Orvis is not the cardholder.
Does the packing slip show pricing information?
It depends. If the shipping and billing addresses are the same, the packing slip will include pricing information for your reference. However, if the shipping and billing addresses are different, the packing slip will not include any pricing information, in case the order is a gift.
