A native of Massachusetts, Merlino spent 14 years in Las Vegas before moving to Detroit, Michigan. Teaching others to fly fish and tie flies is vital to Merlino's enjoyment of the sport. He considers fishing time to be just as well spent if he is teaching someone else, and loves when people approach him with questions while he is casting in his yard or on the water.
