The Black Prairie of Mississippi is an incomparable place with picturesque views, quaint towns, and home to Prairie Wildlife, the conservation-driven sporting estate in West Point, Mississippi. For years, initiatives to restore this unique area have been underway and Prairie Wildlife's decade-long efforts have brought back the native grasses, the valuable pollinators, the habitat, and the irreplaceable wild bobwhite quail.

Today, Prairie Wildlife is home to the Orvis Wingshooting Schools and it gives us great pleasure to have partnered with a sporting estate whose mission is being accomplished through visionary conservation efforts and dedicated community involvement. As a guest and student, not only will you learn shooting concepts from our Orvis’ expert instructors, but your attendance will help bring awareness to the valuable efforts restoring this exceptional ecosystem. Experience and learn the building blocks of the Orvis Wingshooting school program:

  • Basic shotgun safety
  • How to mount a shotgun so you will shoot exactly where you're looking
  • How to shoot all types of clays scenarios: going away, crossing, low      incomers, singles, doubles, and springing teals
  • Proper stance and footwork
  • Proper shotgun handling
  • Proper shotgun fit

In addition to expert comprehensive instruction, the Orvis Wingshooting School at Prairie Wildlife will also include:

  • Lunch each school day
  • All targets and ammunition
  • Copy of “The Orvis Wingshooting Handbook”
  • Use of an Orvis shotgun if you wish
  • Ear and eye protection

Old Waverly Golf Club, the exceptional, Scottish Highland influenced golf course of the South that hosted the Women’s U.S Open a few years ago.

Prairie Arts Festival – On Labor Day Weekend. With over 600 exhibitors, many consider this wonderful celebration as one of the top ten events in the South. The Prairie Arts Festival is one of the largest arts and crafts festivals in the country, attracting crowds of more than 10,000.
