Disappointing vest -
By: Zsafishin from Denver, CO
The cloth the vest is made from is flimsy. The color and pattern is dull. Definately over priced for this poor quality.
Great Vest -

I think I will get a lot of mileage out of this vest. However, I must tell you the top button was broken. It was easier to replace it with the included extra button than to return it. But I know I will enjoy it.
Casual Elegance -
This well-made vest chases mid-season chills elegantly. Smart reversibility coupled with classic styling raises casual beach comfort to easy chic. Love the look!
Beautiful in looks and fit -
By: snowbelle from Salt Lake City, UT
I loved the look of this vest when I first saw it, but was able to still purchase it after it went on sale, so it was a real win-win for me!
flimsy and small -
The vest was very expensive for the quality. It was pretty but very flimsy. I ordered two items in medium. The other vest fit perfectly and this one wouldn't even close over the bust area. I returned it.

This is true to size and a good fit. The colours are quite subdued. It is excellent quality. I feel that I will be able to wear it throughout the year.

...but when this vest went on sale and Orvis offered free shipping it was an offer I couldn't refuse! I am so glad that I ordered this (and the matching solid blue tencel slacks). The vest is beautiful, perfect with the slacks and even nicer than I had anticipated. Also --- Orvis's Sudden Service had it in my hands in no time at all!!

The vest is beautiful. I love the color and design of the print. The shape of the vest is comfortable to wear. It looks expensive.
Looked better in the catalog than in person. -
I was disappointed in the fabric - it looked much better in the catalog. The fit wasn't great for me either, I'm sorry to say as I really wanted this one to work for me.
|India Hand Block-Print Fabric|
The ancient art of hand block-printing
In the desert regions of Jaipur, artisans craft each one of our block-printed jackets by hand using centuries-old techniques that have been passed down for generations.
The Skill and Precision of Hand Block-Print
The process begins with the hand carving of a pattern’s design into wooden blocks. This laborious process must be repeated more often than one might imagine. Each block is used a mere 300 times before the precise lines become blurred. The old block is then discarded and a new block is carved. With the elaborate, delicate designs Orvis commissions for our jackets, the carvers are kept busy year-round.
Fabric is printed by hand using the same skill and precision. With a steady hand and even steadier patience, artists dip the block in dye and then apply the design to the fabric, taking care each time to line the patterns up. This is a skill few can master and the printers who excel in this talent are highly valued. The dyes are also made by hand, the dyers’ art being in the imaginative blends of earthen, vegetable and mineral contents they concoct to create the vivid reds, blues, greens, and yellows that are used for our fabrics.
