The Shimano Stradic is simply a superb reel. Positioned near the top of Shimano’s spinning reel line, the 2500FJ incorporates many of the top-of-the-line features at a more affordable price. Casting, retrieve and fish-fighting performance is silky smooth. Kudos to Orvis for offering great Shimano products.

I recently purchased this reel for a trip to Belize and was very pleased with the quality of the reel matched with the Orvis travel series rod. This reel is of high quality and very smooth retrieving line. I would highly recommend.

Saltwater Reel -

I fish saltwater from a kayak. The only reels I have used for the past 10 years are the Shimano reels. While I have tried several of the lesser priced Shimano reels, I keep going back to the Stradic. The reel will hold up to the rough conditions of saltwater and are able to bring in those big redfish, trout and flounder. I have two of the Stradic's that are almost 10 years old and still cranking. I highly recommend this brand of reel.
Reel to last a lifetime -

After years of seeing that our Keys fly fishing guide only had Shimano reels in the boat, I made a mental note to look that way when I replaced my venable old Penn reel that was always kept rigged with a barracuda tube. I recently purchased a 4000 model, and after the first weekend of fishing light salt, I'm convinced that I made the right choice! Not only is the reel attractive, but well constructed, super smooth, and it comes with an extra spool that gives flexibilty in several different line weight configurations. I'll fish with this reel for many years to come. Note that these "modern" reels throw a lot of line off the spool quickly - you need to make sure you have a spin rod with larger bottom guides to prevent tangles. I was so impressed with this reel that I bought a 2500 model for my travel freshwater reel!

I've paired this reel (Stradic FI 4000) with a 6'6" MH Shimano Crutial and I love it. I still own and use my old white stradic ,still kickin' after years of abuse. The guys and gals at shimano realy picked it up a notch with new FI's line management system, silky smooth, reliable and I think the new color is better too . This reel is worth the price , spend the extra money and you will have a reel that will last forever with proper cleaning and upkeep.
