365 days a year!
Rods, reels, flies, and leaders!
We specialize in shallow-water sight fishing in bays, rivers, creeks, or wherever the fish are hanging out! Typically we are fishing shallow water, looking for any signs of fish, whether it is a tail, a wake, a push, a back out of water, or just nervous water.
A huge percentage of charters are the traditional half day or 3/4 day. During certain seasons, doing a full day is very beneficial but sometimes there isn't an 8-hour window for specific types of fishing. Meeting times very due to our tides. Sometimes we fish early morning, sometimes afternoons, or sometimes even early evenings; it really is dependent upon the tides. There are several boat ramps that we fish from, which is something we can discuss prior to the trip.
We spend a lot of time chasing redfish in the shallows, but if conditions allow, we can target some other species such as Spanish mackerel, amberjacks, and cobia.
We recommend customers bring sunscreen, hat, polarized glasses, clothing appropriate for time of year, camera, shoes with non-marking soles, rain gear, any extra drinks or food outside of water provided, and, most importantly, a good attitude!
Q. Where should we book a hotel in relation to where we are fishing?
A. Usually I recommend downtown Charleston because most boat ramps we will fish from are within a 20-minute drive from downtown, making that a central location. Downtown has a lot to offer, another reason I highly recommend it.

Best guide in Chaleston -
By: TimL from Charleston, SC
I am very picky when it comes to hiring a guide. I am constantly searching for a guide who exhibits professionalism and strives to maintain high standards of customer service. If you believe the same then you have found your man. Top of the line boat (immaculate), latest and top fly gear, proficient knowledge of the fishery, attentive to local tides and weather. You will not be disappointed.
redfish legit experience -

After being a bit skeptical to use a fishing guide, I am really pleased with my 1st time experience chasing Redfish with Jeremy. I liked that Jeremy is upfront & doesn't attempt to overpromise or hype the expectations to get you to book with him in addition to a quality clean boat, Helios 2 rod that was awesome, & his sharing of knowledge & casting tips throughout the day. I've always viewed guides as providing a canned here ya go, go do this, you're done now type experience but he delivered exactly what I told him I was looking for. I learned about the fish, tides, structure, feeding, seasons, & of course flyrod handling tips everyone might need with all the sight fishing excitement. I'd recommend anyone looking for a 1st & 2nd time Redfish experience to book with Jeremy. If you like to fish & learn, you'll get to do exactly that in addition to hooking some quality fish (given mother nature doesn't intervene). I'd recommend fishing with Jeremy at least 1x. It's worth it.
SC Redfishing -

I have been fly fishing for 20 years but never sight fished with a fly rod for redifish. I carefully searched for a guide that deliver a great South Carolina backcountry experience. I was not disappointed with Jeremy. The scenery was beautiful, Jeremy was very knowledgeable about tides, the area and a great teacher about sightfishing for redfish. He was honest about the challenges we had weather wise and extremely enthusiastic about the day.

Capt. Mehlhaff is one of the most professional, patient, and energetic guides I have fished with. He put us on tailing reds from start to finish. Definitely a fishing trip I will never forget. All I can think about is getting back on the flats! Great experience, and I highly recommend fishing With Capt. Mehlhaff!
