Better in shallower water -
My first cast with this fly resulted in an immediate take from a Permit who was cruising in 2-3 ft. of water. Subsequent shots in deeper water have been empty, as the fly doesn't sink as rapidly as some other crab patterns. Used in shallower water, it produces.

This fly is much heavier than it appears. My first attempt to cast the size #4 fly to cruising bones resulted in the flats blowing up. Once I realized the need for a greater lead on the fish I began to see results. Good fly, just needs to be fished right.
Worked Wonders on Permit -
Last year at Ascension Bay, Mexico I had my first chance to use the Soft Shell Crab fly. Our Mayan guides were sceptical and tried to talk me into a standard tan crab pattern. After landing a 22 lb Permit, they insisted that I leave my remaining flies with them when I left for home. It lands on the water softly and flutters down to depth. It may be as close to a sure thing as there is for Permit
LOOK AT THIF FLY IN TH WATER! -
Unbelievable realism and movement! The new soft shell looks just like a molting crab. Drops to the bottom so realistically! Big bonefish producer!
