Itinerary

Sample of Typical Itinerary

View one of our current trip itineraries online here or view the sample itinerary below.

Day 1-2
The group meets at the Denver Airport and then heads to a nearby campground to get ready for the adventures ahead. From a campsite along a river you will spend day 2 developing your fly fishing skills. This helps our leaders to assess each participant's experience level and prepares you for a trip full of catching fish. Whether you are a first timer or you are a seasoned angler, your guides will work one-on-one with you throughout the trip to take your fly fishing skills to the next level.

Day 3-4
After packing our packs we will head to Rocky Mountain National Park for an overnight introduction to back country fly fishing. From our trailhead on the east side of RMNP we will hike to our campsite on the banks of Lawn Lake. The hike will be well worth the effort as the high alpine stream and lake is one of the best places remaining to catch the rare Greenback Cutthroat trout.

Day 5-6
As a fly fishermen you must understand the importance of conservation. That is why we dedicate one day of each trip to helping preserve the amazing fisheries we enjoy. On our Rocky Mountain Explorer we spend the day volunteering with the National Parks Service trail crew, helping to prevent stream/trail erosion.

Day 7-10
Far from any roads and out of the reach of any day hiker, the west side of Rocky Mountain National Park is home to countless trout filled lakes. The trout in these lakes grow big by eating everything in sight. We will spend the first day of our four day back country trip hiking to our base camp along a trout filled stream. From our base camp we will spend the next two days catching eager Colorado River Cutthroat from the meandering meadow stream, and taking day hikes up to fish the nearby high alpine lakes.

Day 11-13
The last two days of your trip will be spent fishing the Colorado River on an overnight rafting/fishing trip with world class Orvis Endorsed guides from Sunrise Anglers. Be ready for some big fish and exciting whitewater during the day, and relax at our luxurious river camp complete with natural hot springs.

Day 14-15
You will enjoy a final dinner at our banquet in a local restaurant while sharing pictures, telling stories, and reminiscing about the amazing experience. You will depart from Denver Airport the next morning.
