Nice Purchase -
By: jh4all from Los Angeles, CA
Been looking awhile for a casual sports coat that I could wear with a pair of jeans. So when this hit my radar, I thought I would give it a shot. This was also my 1st purchase from Orvis, and I could not be more satisfied with the experience. The coat is well made and fits the bill that I was looking for. So if you are on the fence on this one, take a chance like I did...I think you will be happy.
Too bad -

Good quality and appearence. Runs a little large. Functional sleeve buttons (that's good if the sleeves fit) but mean the sleeves can't be shortened if necessary. I had to return it for that reason.
Blue Cotton Sportcoat -
Nice looking coat. Looks well made. Nice feature is the functional cuff buttons, Runs large. Main problem: can't shorten the sleeves because the cuff button holes are already in.
Great Casual Coat/Sport Coat -

I have a winter weight unstructured casual sport coat that can be worn with anything from khakis with a tie to blue jeans with a t-shirt, but had a hard time finding one for summer. This one is perfect. Can be worn as a light coat or sport coat. Good quality and generously cut with a washed cotton look. Just what I was looking for.

Great jacket for travel -

(Bought this for my husband, so this review is filtered through my observations and a brief, intimate, interview with the wearer!) This spots jacket packs well and bridges casual w/ low-end dressy. Its unstructured look can go surprisingly sophisticated. He says its comfortable too.
Needed a lot of work -

Since this wasn't stocked in the local store I originally ordered it in a 40R (I'm a 39R). It was gigantic. I returned it for a 38R and it was also huge for it's stated size. Since that was the smallest size I took it to my tailor and had the shoulders brought in, the back reduced and the sleeves narrowed. I think this was cut for someone who is stocky and thick in the middle. What they call "Regular" is what I would call "Big". It seems Orvis is marketing toward the Big and Tall crowd. As I told my tailor, "next time I'll just have you make me a jacket."

I was looking for a casual lightweight blazer to wear in the evenings on a trip to NewOrleans. This jacket was much too heavy for that purpose, given the town' sigh humidity. The construction of the coat seemed below Orvis's standard for quality as well. I probably should have ordered the travel blazer.

I really wanted to like this jacket but the fit was odd. I ordered a 44R and while it fit well through the shoulders, it was long in the sleeves and length. It was 2-3 inches too big around the middle. I am 5'9" and weigh 195. I called customer service and asked if a 42 might work but they felt it would be too small in the shoulders. Had to return it.
Excellent Style -

I had been looking for a sports coat that had nice clean crisp lines and casual at the same time. This sports coat fits that criteria perfectly. The coat is not lined, but still has enough substance to keep it from collapsing and looking untidy. It gives the look of dressed up while feeling casual. I liked that the stitching was not apparent around pockets and such like can be seen on other similar sports coats.
