Sumpin' Ugly

That big fish you've been after won't have seen this fly fishing pattern coming.

Details

Dave Hise, North Carolina-based fly innovator, guide, and 2005 Orvis Fly Tier of the Year, designed a series of articulated streamers he called Sumpin' Ugly. While beautiful they're not, effective they most certainly are. Tied with spun marabou, you can swing them, strip them, or drift them, and fish will eat them. Trout, steelhead, and even smallmouth bass have fallen for these flies. In sculpin, leech.

Good Pattern, I wish it had a trailing hook - 10/23/2013

The pattern works great, I got plenty of hits using it. The problem is that it has a small hook in the front, so you miss any fish that only take in the back half of the fly. If it had a trailing hook instead It would catch more fish.
