Great Smallie Fly -
I found this fly lying around in the bottom of my fly box and decided to take it out with me Smallie fishing. First off, the action was incredible and it really resembled a crayfish's bursts of speed to escape predators. Secondly, the bass couldn't seem to keep their mouths off of it. Overall, this fly is tied with the clouser minnow for my favorite Smallie fly to bounce over the rip rap.

Works great on large mouth, caught a fish on first cast.
Great Pattern for River Smallies -
I generally use woolly buggers and clouser minnows for smallmouth bass but lately they have not seemed effective for me. I've had this fly for a while and had never used it. Figured, I might as well as try it. Wow, the smallies crushed these flies hard. For a second I thought I might have had a mini-steelhead on. Highly recommended.

I bought this fly somewhere along the way and I have tried to replicate it with little success. I used it 3 different days on the Shenandoah river in W.V. and caught about 4 dozen small mouths until it started to fall apart, which is amazing. I have used cray fish patterns similar, but this one produced the best and lasted the longest.
nice fly, EXCEPT eye had cement in it -

I'd buy again, but considering the premium price, I was surprised this had to have its eye cleaned. It was hard stuff, needed a large sharp safety pin tip to chip through it. From now on, I'll be checking all my orvis flies before heading to the water.
Must have fly for smallmouth -

Without a doubt one of the best smallmouth patterns there is.. Paired with a vertical streamer presentation, it really can't be beat.. Hats off to Steve and Ken....
