This outdoor sportsman collection series includes original, un-circulated antique cigar labels with sporting themes -- perfect for the hunting collector or cigar aficionado. The three sets of cigar box labels in this collection consist of the larger inner cigar label, which is generally 6" x 9" in size and was intended for the inside lid of the cigar box, and the smaller, outer cigar box label which is
approximately 4" x 4".
The c.1890 Gute Freund label depicts a bearded hunter smoking a cigar and his two best friends, his sporting dogs. The Jagerbrauch label shows the Hunter's Ritual, a European custom wherein the hunter gives thanks for the kill; this label was produced by Germany's Heinrich and August Bruning company in the 1890s.
The third set for the Oldrich brand shows a hunter returning on horseback and the symbol of St. Huberto, the Patron Saint of Hunting; Huberto received a vision of the crucifix, which appeared in between the antlers of a stag he was hunting on Good Friday morning and is represented on the label in two medallions. Heavily embossed and gilded, the Oldrich labels were produced by S. L. and Co. in the early 1900s.
