Rated 5 out of 5 by from Updated - Nice boots ... better than I expected! Update - In December 2014, I wrote the below review and immediately returned the Gokey Savage Hikers. Recently, I was headed overseas and planned to do lots of walking, so I took another chance and ordered another pair of Savage Hikers (again, in the same size and extra wide). The RESULT? Awesome boots arrived - both the tongue and heels have been improved over my first pair. The tongue is properly cut and lines up under the laces and the heels are thicker, but do not have a 'Vibram-like' tread, which is fine. Both reasons for my first return were completely resolved and make this US Army Ranger78 review a solid "5". "Well done Gokey and Orvis!" Have had several months of comfortable wear & tear and these boots still look like new. Wear them frequently to the office and church. And they are made in the USA! --------------- Review from Dec 2014------------- Very nice, comfortable, well-made boots. I own the Gokey Lug Sole Chukka Boots, which are super comfortable, but they don't provide enough support for hiking, so I purchased the Sauvage Hikers. Unfortunately, I returned the Hikers for the following reasons: 1. Size was awkward compared to other Gokey's I own, but I went extra wide based on reviews - so size was actually a good fit. What wasn't such a good fit, were the tongues -- they were of uneven sizes and cut on an angle. When I laced up the boots, the tongues were not centered, but were off to one side. You could see my sock where the tongue should be. Not good while you're on the trail. 2. The primary reason for the return were the heels. Unlike the pictures in the catalog and online, the Vibram soles were matched with a very low, smooth heel. The heel was more for a dress shoe, than a hiking boot. Not rugged looking at all - it really made the boot more like a fashion boot, than a hiking boot. (Both associates at the retail store where I made the return, agreed the tongues and heels didn't look right ... not sure if the boot was finished properly -- looked like they needed another layer of rubber tread on the heel!) Gokey's are awesome quality -- still a high score, but these Hikers weren't for me. FIx the tongue/heels and I'll buy a pair in a heart beat! US Army Ranger

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Still a great boot! I bought a pair of Gokeys about 25 years ago. They were wonderful but needed replacing. I was afraid that after time quality might be an issue. I am thrilled with the same quality in the new boot.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product, great service. These boots are certainly worth the cost. Comfortable, stylish, timeless. I have a pair of the Gokey Oxfords that my grandfather wore before me. They're still going strong but I prefer a shoe that covers my ankle and these are just the thing. The only difference between the two pairs that I find regrettable is that these no longer have the hard Gro Cord soles of my Oxfords. The Vibram sole is much cushier which some might prefer. Mine were delivered within the week, faster than I expected.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from let's take a walk II had always wanted a pair of Gokey's and I finally broke down and pulled the trigger. These boots are terribly comfortable and are great for walks in the woods. Yesterday I went trap shooting at a charity event, and am awfully happy that I'd chosen to wear them there. They are like putting your feet in butter, as they are already broken in. Great stuff

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Gokey shoes. They are comfortable and look good with jeans or slacks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sauvage Hiker Custom Made I had these custom made to fit my narrow feet in the early 1980's when Gokey was an independent MInnestoa company. The fit and support were (and still are) terrific. Had them resoled with Gro-Cord more times than I can count. Now they have changed the soles, but I just resoled this original pair through Orvis this year. And it is great service. The only "knock" on these wonderful shoes is that the shoes are (and have always been) dreadful in wet rainy weather. They take in water early and easily and I have coated them with numerous recommended weatherproofs. Would I buy them again? Absolutely - without a second thought. Quality is remembered after price is forgotten.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gokey Sauvage Hikers As a kid I always wanted a pair of these. I finally bought a pair at 52 years of age. The wait was worth it. They are extremely comfortable and yes they do run narrow. After reading several other reviews I ordered a pair in E width. Fit perfectly. I had a pair of Russell slip-on hunting bouts. The Sauvage hikers are why more comfortable. I would highly recommend these to anyone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Most comfortable shoe ever The Sauvage Hikers are the most comfortable shoes I have ever purchased. They fit like a glove right out of the box (one size wider than I normally wear). I would have preferred if they were lined, but this is a small complaint. The only footwear I own that is this comfortable for all day walking is a pair of Orvis upland hunting boots I bought 25 years ago--still going strong.
