Fly tying books contain valuable information for all anglers.

Fly tying book by Mike Valla. The Catskills region of the eastern United States, just two hours northeast of New York City, was the birthplace for a uniquely American style of fly that continues to grace the bins of fly shops around the world. Mike Valla explores the essence of Catskill flies, delving into the history of the region's rivers, fly fishers, and fly tiers, and blending their colorful histories with precise step-by-step tying methods. This book is essential for those not only interested in learning to tie the Catskill-style flies, but also those interested in the history of American fly fishing. Hard cover fly tying book.

Even the non-American reader finds the description of the development of the Catskill fly fishing patterns, the women and men behind those flies very interesting. Also the chapters about the special hackle wanted for tying the Catskill flies is interesting. The photographs are of highest quality and the book is extremely well written. I fish those patterns successfully know at our small streams we have here. One of the best dry fly fishing and tying books.

One thing I love about this book is the author really delves into the history of the Catskills and fly fishing and the wonderful people there who directly influenced our sport for the last 100 years. The patterns are associated with the creators and most pages have nice stories to accompany the patterns. If you want to get back to the roots of dry fly fishing in America, and the flies that and tyers that changed how we fished and the rods we fished with, this is the book to get.
