Details
The men's traditional leather bomber jacket arose from the need of flight crews to stay warm at frigid high altitudes without sacrificing mobility in the tight confines of the cockpit. This classic bomber, crafted in America by Schott—supplier to the US military for six decades—is crafted from genuine cowhide leather with a removable lining of warm, plush pile. The fleece-pile collar is removable, too, making this jacket even more versatile than the originals. Wind-flap-covered full-zip front closure with cut-brass zipper. Snap-closed cargo pockets; one interior pocket. Gusseted underarms and bi-swing back for full range of motion. Functional epaulets. Rib-knit cuffs and waistband. Men's leather flight jacket in brown. Genuine cowhide leather body with polyester lining. Professionally clean. USA.
Regular even size: 40. About 27" long in size 44.

Sizing Information for Orvis Men's Clothing

Orvis clothes are cut generously to accommodate an active country lifestyle. We build plenty of “wearing ease” in all our garments to ensure you will enjoy them for many years. We field-test all of them on associates, and we take into consideration how the clothing will be worn. For example, when we fit outerwear, we always size it with the appropriate layers beneath. That means you do not need to order a size up for a comfortable fit.

How to Measure

Men's SizingIn all instances, hold tape firm and level, but not tight.
a. Head: Using a flexible/soft tape measure, start 1" above the ear. Follow around head staying 1" above the ear. This will give your most accurate reading. Then refer to the chart for size.
b. Neck Circumference: Wrap tape around to the base of your front neck and allow room for wearing comfort. OR measure the collar length of a favorite shirt.
c. Sleeve Length: From the center back of your neck with your arm slightly bent, follow the tape around to your wrist bone.
d. Chest: Wrap a tape measure evenly around the fullest part under your arms.
e. Waist: Wrap tape around your natural waistline, or where you actually wear your pants.
f. Seat/Hip: Standing with your feet together, measure around the fullest part of your hip (approx. 7-8" below the waist). Don’t forget to keep the tape level.
g. Inseam: Best taken from an existing pair of pants you like. Measure along the garment inseam from the crotch seam to the hem.
h. Glove Hand: Measure all the way around the flat part of your hand, excluding the thumb, and around the widest part at the knuckles. Use the chart above to convert this measurement in inches to your corresponding glove size.

Schott Leather Jackets

Quality outerwear since 1913

Nothing is more uniquely American than a good leather jacket. From the invention of the motorcycle, to the need for specialized military uniforms in WWII, to the evolution of Rock and Roll, Schott NYC has been at the forefront of quality outerwear production.

The first company to sew a zipper onto a jacket, Schott is among the most innovative and unique companies America has ever produced. Established in 1913 as raincoat makers, Irving and Jack Schott, the sons of a Russian immigrant, were on their way to shaping American fashion.

Only two years into the business, the Schott brothers opened a manufacturing facility in Staten Island, producing the famous Perfecto leather jacket. Named after Irving’s favorite cigar, these jackets have played a huge role in American culture. In 1928 they produced the first motorcycle jacket, 40 years before Harley Davidson made their first jacket. The motorcycle and the leather jacket became icons for freedom, adventure, and everything that drove the new generation of bikers.

As America entered WWII, the whole country went into overdrive. Schott was no exception. They were commissioned by the US Army Air Corps to make a bomber jacket suitable for wear in airplanes. They also made wool naval pea coats for the servicemen on deck. For the next 60 years, the US Military trusted Schott as a coat maker that would protect the boys on the front lines.

The next role the Perfecto played in history was quite controversial. After the release of “The Wild One” starring Marlon Brando in 1954, the leather jacket became paired with the “hoodlum” and rebellious teenagers. Schools around the nation prohibited leather jackets because of what they symbolized, and Schott actually felt sales decrease. It didn’t take long, however, for the Perfecto to make a comeback. With a yearning for the open road, the love of the leather jacket returned. Icons such as James Dean made the Perfeco even more symbolic to American culture.

For four generations, Schott has grown to produce a variety of products and are known internationally as a top producer of outerwear and accessories. Even after almost 100 years, Schott NYC still designs and produces 100% of their products right here in the US.
