    Basic Black Denim - 4/2/2013
    By: from Forest Falls, CA

I've found that this classic already looks great with a couple different scarves that I have. It would be great with seasonal jewelry. I like the way the collar frames my face and the overall relaxed long look it gives me.

    Love it! - 12/17/2012
    By: from Cheektowaga, NY

I read reviews on this dress and hesitated in purchasing for over a year. I finally bought it for my birthday and love it! Yes, it is a shift dress and therefore the shape is basic and yes the trim would be nice to see @ the outside of the collar and yes, there is a smell to the fabric that hasn't left w/a few washes BUT it is comfy and casually fun to wear. I recommend not buttoning the bottom 2 buttons for ease of sitting and non-ripping of the fabric eventually.

    Stinks! - 11/23/2012

The fabric stinks! I washed the dress, and it still stinks. Plus the dye faded in blotchy patches. Cheap materials in this relatively expensive dress. Don't buy this product.

    it smelled bad - 11/19/2012
    By: from Northampton, MA

when I took the dress out of the box I noticed a strange smell coming from it. It looked very nice on me and I wanted to keep it, so I hung it up in my room hoping the odor would go away. When this did not happen, I returned it. the fabric is also quite stiff. I wondered if this would go away with washing but read other reviews which said it did not so I didn't try that.

very disappointed as this is not a true size 18; fits snug.

    Right for the between-season - 11/6/2012
    By: from Southern Oregon

I would have given this dress another star, except that it has a design flaw! The pretty floral lining only shows at the cuffs. The rest is hidden on the INSIDE plackets around the neck and down the front. I will need to take to a dressmaker to remove some and line the 2 pockets and maybe outer neck.

    Good quality - 10/24/2012

Good quality item and good fit but not flattering at all - I looked like an inmate somewhere. May have been better in another colour.

    returned - 10/22/2012

The black color was very flat, and the dress was not, for me, flattering. I have returned the dress.

    Very disappointing - 10/15/2012
    By: from Calgary, Alberta

I read previous reviews and bought a size up 18 instead of 16. The sleeves were too tight and It felt tight across the back. I had previously bought the corduroy dress in the same style in XlL and had to have it altered because it was way too big. I returned this dress. Not happy with the inconsistency in sizing.

The Practical Fashion of Vintage Denim

Vintage Denim from OrvisFew fabrics can boast the tradition and the colorful history that denim claims. From gold miner’s staple to the darling of high fashion, this down-to-earth indigo twill has worked its way into our hearts and into our closets. Our signature version, Orvis Vintage Denim is a traditional mid-weight denim made of pure cotton.

The Rugged Outdoor Fabric of Choice for Centuries

No other fabric is as quintessentially American as denim is. Used for the sails on Christopher Columbus’s ships, it first arrived on our shores in 1492, but the rugged textile had already been known in Europe for centuries. From the original serge de Nîmes, denim had been manufactured in France since 300 A.D. ad the outdoor fabric of choice for workers and farmers throughout Northern Europe.

Orvis Vintage Denim: The Toughness of Original Denim, but Prewashed for Softness

This sturdy cotton fabric derives its toughness from the weave — twill is the strongest of all of the fabric weaves, with threads woven in a tight diagonal pattern for increased strength. This diagonal pattern, or twill line, makes the fabric very durable and prevents it from tearing or ripping easily. The steeper the twill line, the higher quality the fabric; this is because the steeper weaves have more yarns per inch. Woven in this strong pattern, our 8 oz. Vintage Denim is prewashed for softness and will only get better with age.

Great for Travel

Orvis Vintage Denim is ideal for travel. Our sturdy, easy-care skirts, pants, and dresses are as stylish as they are comfortable, resist wrinkles, and the mid-weight fabric is suitable for year-round wear. Because our Vintage Denim is so versatile, practical, and popular, we offer a wide variety of styles for women in traditional denim blue, plus a range of wardrobe-expanding colors.
