Orvis Guide To Fly Fishing For Carp

The ultimate comprehensive carp fly-fishing book.

Details

Carp are tantalizingly close, no matter where you are. They will challenge you technically, test your patience, and make you question your fly-fishing bona fides more than any other freshwater fish. And they get really big; they'll put you into your backing fast. As Trout Unlimited's Chris Hunt says in his foreword, "Enjoy the journey that comes with fly fishing for carp and leave your 4-weight home." Sporting nicknames like the golden bonefish, carp are finally getting the attention they deserve from US flyrodders. TROUT Magazine managing editor Kirk Deeter meets these non-native fish head-on, examining their history, behavior, diet, and the challenges they pose for even the most accomplished fly fisherman. Covering everything from the approach, the presentation, how to effectively read both fish and water - even recipes for the best patterns to throw - Deeter introduces the most prolific freshwater gamefish to an audience finally ready to stalk them. Paperback. 160 pages.

I bought this book and finished reading it a few days ago. Today I caught my first carp on the fly. It was great fought him for 20 mins. before i landed him in my net. I have been tossing flys at carp every now and then when small mouth fishing, but never had the tricks to hook them until I read this book. There is definitely a method to it, it is a different game and the book gets you started. Buy it carp are every where.

Comprehensive background and there are insights on sight fishing, flies and of course Orvis gear. Gorgeous color photographs. Carp are easy to find, but hard to take on fly, so tips and tricks are always welcome.

Picked up a copy last week and can't put it down. It is a very well organized book that will help your angling skills. With some local streams and ponds around my home that have carp in them, I now have no excuse to sit home on the sofa. Get out and fish.
