Robinson's Chicken Hawk

This egg-sucking-nymph pattern is a top fly for Great Lakes steelhead.

Ohio-based Orvis-Endorsed Guide Patrick Robinson lives in the heart of Steelhead Alley, and chases those Great Lakes fish in tributaries around the region. His Chicken Hawk fly is essentially a smaller version of the Chicken Little, and fishes best in low, clear water, or when the trout and steelhead have faced heavy fishing pressure. Let it dead drift, or swing it through a run, and catch fish when everyone else comes up empty handed. In tan, orange, chartreuse, purple.

    Clear water steel - 3/26/2013

Another one of those must have steelhead patterns. It seems like I get to fish for steelhead more when the water is low and the fish have been pressured hard than when they are fresh. When the water is low and crystal clear and your site fishing already spawned drop backs or staging fish one or two of these on the leader never lets down. The rust is my most productive, but sometimes something different gets some looks. Another simple yet very productive pattern from the Erie/steelhead Alley region!

    Immediate - 5/12/2011

I ordered 6 of the Chicken Hawks and got immediate results of two nice rainbows. They also work great on panfish with a light set-up.
