good for just about anying in the cold weather - 1/2/2016

Another Great Orvis Coat - 1/2/2016

By: DenaDthis coat is the real deal: handsome, well made, heavy/sturdy coat that gives you a great alternative to a bulky winter coat. Liked the color- the olive is very dark, almost brown. Runs average size through the shoulders, but a little big through he middle-but perfect with an extra layer underneath. Great deal. Great coat.

By: DanCC from Western MarylandThis is a good field coat / hunting jacket. It is not a warm as I would like, but it is full cut enough that an insulated vest can be worn under it. It also nice to be able to layer for the exact weather you are dealing with. Waxed cotton is a great material for the Mid-Atlantic area where I live. We don't get the freezing cold; we get cold and damp. Staying dry and being able to add layers makes this an ideal coat for this area.

Very Nice Coat for Hubby - 12/28/2015

I would call it "sturdy". I believe it will be wind resistant and warm. It looks great on and has lots of nice features, like the warming pockets. He loved receiving it as a gift.

Orvis men's clothes are cut generously to accommodate an active country lifestyle. In addition, we build plenty of “wearing ease” in all our men's garments to ensure you will enjoy them for many years. We field-test all of them on associates, and we take into consideration how the clothing will be worn. For example, when we fit men's outerwear, we always size it with the appropriate layers beneath. That means you do not need to order a size up for a comfortable fit.

Fit Guide to Orvis Pants
Classic Fit
- Field-tested and time-honored

Trim Fit
- 1 ½” narrower through the hips
- 1” narrower through the thighs and down the legs
- A ½” shorter back rise allows a closer fit to the body
In all instances, hold tape firm and level, but not tight.
a. Head: Using a flexible/soft tape measure, start 1" above the ear. Follow around head staying 1" above the ear. This will give your most accurate reading. Then refer to the chart for size.
b. Neck Circumference: Wrap tape around to the base of your front neck and allow room for wearing comfort. OR measure the collar length of a favorite shirt.
c. Sleeve Length: From the center back of your neck with your arm slightly bent, follow the tape around to your wrist bone.
d. Chest: Wrap a tape measure evenly around the fullest part under your arms.
e. Waist: Wrap tape around your natural waistline, or where you actually wear your pants.
f. Seat/Hip: Standing with your feet together, measure around the fullest part of your hip (approx. 7-8" below the waist). Don’t forget to keep the tape level.
g. Inseam: Best taken from an existing pair of pants you like. Measure along the garment inseam from the crotch seam to the hem.
h. Glove Hand: Measure all the way around the flat part of your hand, excluding the thumb, and around the widest part at the knuckles. Use the chart above to convert this measurement in inches to your corresponding glove size.
