    Best Jacket - 11/14/2014
    By: from Atlanta, GA

Looked years for this jacket. Ordered large and medium to get the right fit. I'm 6' 1" 175 and the medium fits just right even with some layering, large was too baggy. I live in the SE and this is the perfect weight. Ideal material, breathable but appears to cut the wind entirely. Arrived just as 30 degree weather hit, and it's plenty warm. Understated look, dark buttons, subtle Barbour label. Great overall cut. Five outside pockets are easy to access with Barbour snap button quality, and the vertical zip pocket on the front is just right for any size phone. Zip pocket inside is not mentioned in the description. Couldn't have designed a better jacket.

Superb wet weather coat! - 10/16/2014
    By: from Tampa, FL

I have always admired the style of the Barbour Sapper but living and also working in war weather climes I just couldn't justify the expense for a jacket I would wear 3-5 days a year. This Barbour Breathable Sapper has been a godsend, same Sapper style and protection from wet weather, but I can wear it 365 days a year! I am 6'2 220 lbs and the xxl let's me layer a sweater underneath comfortably. As you would expect from Barbour it is very well made and actually does look black vice navy. I am enamored with this jacket and the fact that it is so pack able makes it a constant companion. As an outer shell you can put a sweater on underneath and be comfortable I to 30 degree weather.

    Good Packable Coat - 7/17/2014
    By:

This is good quality, lightweight rain protection. I make lots of international business travel trips each year. This coat is just right for packing and has a good look that spans casual to professional dress. The size runs a bit small for layering (slimmer fit) than other "parka-style" coats I have had. One disappointment is that there are no pockets for your hands. For this price, it could easily have been worked into the design behind the lower cargo pockets.

Barbour Breathable Sapper Jacket - 5/19/2014
    By: from mail order

I had to return the jacket because the sleeves were too long and there was no way to alter their length. If Barbour had designed the jacket with an additional way to tighten the sleeves around my wrist, I would have kept it. They made no provision for arm length that was short. When you buy the "best" you expect it to fit.

    Elegant Rain Solution - 4/21/2014
By: from Miami, Fl & Lake Lure, NC

Great fit with lots of useful pockets. Travels well and keeps you dry in an urban setting. The zipper is a little hard to start and not the same quality of the zipper in the regular waxed Sapper. The blue looks black which is not a bad thing.

    Fine, but overpriced - 4/1/2014
    By: from Northeast

It is a coat and while it looks nice there are other coats just as nice that are far less costly.

    Excellent purchase - 3/18/2014
    By:

This is a very stylish light jacket. I am 6"1 and weigh 195 lbs. The XL is just a tad too big, but still looks good. The large would be too small for me.

    Simply Perfect - 2/21/2014

The jacket is simply perfect, waterproof and truly breathable;; rather unlike most other manufacturers claims. Highly recommended.

Good looking functional jacket - 6/3/2013

This lighter weight Sapper has real style and is perfect for warmer weather. It is truly waterproof. Some say it fits snug, I'd say just right, even over a sport coat. Highly recommended!

Barbour of England

Since 1894, J. Barbour & Sons have produced clothes perfectly suited to enjoyment of life beyond the city. It is this commitment to quality and durability that has seen the name Barbour become synonymous with the best of country living.

The beginning of Barbour jackets

In 1894 John Barbour established himself in the burgeoning port of South Shields, supplying oilskins and other garments to protect the growing community of sailors, fishermen, rivermen and dockers from the worst of the North Sea weather.

Within a few years the firm became the leading supplier of oilskins on the north east coast, not only to seafarers but to others in the surrounding country - farmers, labourers, carters, shepherds - who earned their living outdoors in all weathers. By the beginning of the next century Barbour’s durable Beacon oilskins were well known throughout Britain and beyond.

The legendary durability of Barbour jackets

Barbour of EnglandIf there’s one feature that distinguishes Barbour jackets more than any other, it is their legendary durability. But, given the quality of materials used—genuine long-staple Egyptian cotton, solid brass studs, substantial metal zips, plus painstaking quality of construction with an average of 15,000 stitches and up to two hundred components—perhaps it’s hardly surprising.

The seams in a Barbour oiled cotton jacket are double rolled, each stitched through two thicknesses of fabric. It is an intricate part of the manufacture and it ensures that the seams are completely waterproof. Even the thread is treated with the same secret watertight proofing formula as the fabric itself.

How long a Barbour jacket will last very much depends on its use (or rather abuse in many cases). Undoubtedly, owners expect much more of a Barbour than any other garment because Barbour enables them to do more. They will subject themselves and their jackets to the severest conditions of weather, mud, animal contact and abrasion than they could ever contemplate if wearing anything less robust.
