Sizing Information for Orvis Women's Clothing

Orvis clothes are cut generously to accommodate an active country lifestyle. We build plenty of “wearing ease” in all our garments to ensure you will enjoy them for many years. We field-test all of them on associates, and we take into consideration how the clothing will be worn. For example, when we fit outerwear, we always size it with the appropriate layers beneath. That means you do not need to order a size up for a comfortable fit.

Not sure what size to order? Just chat, e-mail, or call 888- 235-9763 our Customer Service experts. They will be happy to give you the actual garment measurements for any item we sell.

How to Measure

Women's SizingIn all instances, hold tape firm and level, but not tight.
a. Hat Sizes: Using a flexible/soft tape measure, start 1" above the ear. Follow around head staying 1" above the ear. This will give your most accurate reading. Then refer to the chart for size.
b. Bust/Chest: Wrap a tape measure evenly around the fullest part under your arms.
c. Waist: Wrap tape around your natural waistline, or where you actually wear your pants.
d. Seat/Hip: Standing with your feet together, measure around the fullest part of your hip (approx. 7-8" below the waist). Don’t forget to keep the tape level.
e. Inseam: Best taken from an existing pair of pants you like. Measure along the garment inseam from the crotch seam to the hem.
f. Glove Hand: Measure all the way around the flat part of your hand, excluding the thumb, and around the widest part at the knuckles. Use the chart below to convert this measurement in inches to your corresponding glove size.

Vintage Denim

The practical fashion of Vintage Denim

Vintage Denim from OrvisThere are few fabrics that can boast the tradition and colorful history that denim claims. From gold miner’s staple to the darling of high fashion, this down-to-earth indigo twill has worked its way into our hearts and into our closets. Orvis Vintage Denim, a traditional mid-weight denim, is made of pure cotton, woven right here in the U.S.A.

The rugged outdoor fabric of choice for centuries

No other fabric is as quintessentially American as denim is; it first arrived on our shores in 1492. Used for the sails on Christopher Columbus’s ships, the rugged textile had already been known in Europe for centuries. Denim, whose name derives from the original serge de Nîmes, had been manufactured in France since 300 A.D. It was the outdoor fabric of choice for workers and farmers throughout Northern Europe.

Orvis Vintage Denim: the toughness of original denim, but prewashed for softness

This sturdy cotton fabric derives its toughness from the weave — twill is the strongest of all of the fabric weaves, with threads woven in a tight diagonal pattern for increased strength. This diagonal pattern, or twill line, makes the fabric very durable and prevents it from tearing or ripping easily. The steeper the twill line, the higher quality the fabric; this is because the steeper weaves have more yarns per inch. Our Vintage Denim is woven in this strong pattern, but is prewashed for softness and will only get better with age.

Great for travel

Orvis Vintage Denim have belt loops and handy side pockets. They are ideal for travel. Like your favorite pair of jeans, these easy-care skirts and pants resist wrinkles and the mid-weight fabric is suitable for year-round wear.

Once you try Orvis Vintage Denim, chances are you’ll want another, which is why we offer them in a range of wardrobe-expanding neutral colors.
