Runs a size and a half small -

Size 16 almost always fits me. This one was more than a size too small. I really liked the fabric. They run a little short so don't expect to wear anything but flats. I'm 5'7" and after one wash they would have been too short.

I bought these pants in black for work. They look like nice, work appropriate slacks. Bottom line: With a few inevitable alterations I think they will work very nicely. Fit:The waist is high, above the belly button. I like this to avoid "muffin top" or "plumber's exposure" unlike most pants available today. The pants have a FLATTERING straight leg that avoids too much thigh hugging. They make me look longer and leaner, not as baggy or drape-y as they look in the picture. They were my size but a little loose in the waist and snug in the hip/rear. I have a well proportioned, fairly normal body type. The elastic in the back of the waist is probably 1/4" wide so it makes the waist band look messy and bunched up (it should be at least an inch wide) and only gave about 1/2", so it's pretty pointless. I expect more from Orvis and this price point. Color: I ordered black and it's more of an off-black/dark grey. Fabric: These pants are 60% Tencel and 40% cotton. They look like crisp cotton trousers but are softer and not too heavy. I would replace 10% of the cotton with spandex or stretch because I like some ease in my pants if I am both sitting and walking around. This would also help alleviate wrinkles. We shall see if they resist wrinkling during the day, but so far it looks like regular cotton level wrinkles which is a little disappointing.
Legs too big -

Ther last five pants I have ordered from Orvis in my size have been too big. The legs are enormous although I am a big size 18. Why don't you save material by tailoring the legs?
