Excellent quality but strange fit - 12/25/2013

The sweater is as advertised: very soft merino wool, beautiful hand knitting and great color. The fit, however, is a problem. Very tight forearms & marginal sleeve length. My arms are average length but the sleeves just come to the wrist. Any movement & they ride up my arm. Forearms are way too tight. Overall, the sweater is more like a medium. Hand made products have an expected variance and for this reason I'll wait till I can try one on in a store. Unfortunately, it looks like Orvis has sold out so I'll just return for a refund. Too bad, this is a gorgeous item..

Excellent in every way - 1/21/2013

I decided to buy this sweater as a Christmas present to myself and I'm glad that I did. I've been spending a good deal of time out of doors with the dog this winter, hiking and doing assorted chores on the property. This Irish sweater has kept me comfortable and warm -- it looks great, fits very well, and is sturdy and well-made. My wife also thinks it looks sharp on me, so that's a plus as well. You're getting the real Orvis quality here, so don't sweat the few extra bucks. It's well worth it.

I purchased the blue sweater as a gift for my husband. He has a long torso and arms, and this sweater fit him very well. The pattern and deep blue color are simply gorgeous. It is definitely of the high quality that I expect from Orvis clothing.

    Perfect - 11/11/2012

I have looked at this in the catalog for a couple of years...finally broke down and bought it. The fit and color are perfect. The wool is not too scratchy. The cableing is VERY deep and well defined. In short, it is PERFECT.

Very happy with this purchase - 12/2/2011

This is a very attactive sweater. It is hand knitted and the craftsmanship is excellent. It is soft and comfortable and seems to be very warm. It hasn't been cold enough yet for a good test, but I think I will really enjoy it this winter. It is desses up well but also will be great with bluejeans. The only criticism is that the knitting is not as tight as some sweaters. You can see through it in places when you hold it close (I do admit that the openings are very small). This may allow it to breathe but I don't know how it will be in windy conditions. Still, it is definately a keeper.

This Irish knit sweater is the real deal! Compares very well with similar hand knit merino wool sweaters I purchased "across the pond." The blue color is deep and rich, the wool soft. It is true to Orvis size definition.
