Machined Construction: Like the Vortex VO2 and the Battenkill Mid-Arbor, the new Battenkill Large Arbor is machined from solid bar-stock, aerospace grade 6061-T6 aluminum	6061-T6 material is the highest quality bar-stock on the market, providing the finest precision and finishing possible. Machined parts are significantly stronger and more durable than cast parts. More precise fit of parts with more exacting tolerances. A cast spool is a press fit, two-part assembly, whereas a machined spool is a single piece of bar stock. This results in a more durable, precise, aesthetically pleasing component with no fit parts to loosen over time.
Large Arbor Design: The new Battenkill Large Arbor was designed as a true large arbor reel—not a redesign of a traditional arbor reel. Like the Vortex VO2, Battenkill Large Arbor was designed with the idea that there would never be more than a 30% reduction in pick-up rate from a full spool to an empty spool.	Less change in spool diameter as a running fish takes line means the drag setting stays consistent. Battenkill Large Arbor III picks up 7 feet of line per 10 revolutions as opposed to other competitive large arbors that average 6 feet or less. Ability to get fish on the reel faster. Faster line pick-up reduces chance of slack line tangling, in both boat and wade fishing. Line comes off the reel in larger coils, preventing tangles and reducing line memory.
Dramatically Improved Center Pull Drag System: The drag system on the new Battenkill Large Arbor is a solid improvement over the older off-set models in smoothness, consistency and reliability.	The Battenkill Large Arbor Trout models feature a smooth and reliable carbon and stainless center disc drag with one-way roller bearing and a super light aluminum bushing that keeps the weight of the reel low so it balances well with today’s ultra lightweight fly rods. The Battenkill Large Arbor Saltwater models feature the same carbon and stainless drag with a center bearing that makes the drag impervious to salt and sand and prevents wear and corrosion in a tough environment. Both drag systems are smooth and reliable and coupled with the large arbor design offer a vastly reduced inertial startup from line in to line out that protects leaders and prevents break-offs when fish turn and decide to run. The drag is infinitely and quickly adjusted by using the positive click and numbered drag knob. The drag can easily be reset back to the drag you prefer while casting and fishing and then reset during a fight with a big fish if necessary.
