Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Personalized Instruction; Wonderful Setting I just completed my third Orvis two-day wingshooting school at Prairie Wildlife in West Point, Mississippi. I stayed at the Bryan Lodge, and couldn't have been happier with my experience. In the past, the schools have had eight or more students, and instruction is given in groups of two or three students by either an Orvis instructor or one of the instructors from Prairie Wildlife. This year, I was the only student for this session, and I got the full attention of John Rano, until his recent retirement the Gun Room Manager at Orvis in Vermont. Now John continues to do the Wingshooting Schools, and he brings a lifetime of shooting experience to the class - and in this case, to me. We spent two to three hours each morning and afternoon both days on various clays stations, including one with a wobbler, a high tower, and the quail walk, which simulates single, pairs, and coveys of quail breaking cover. I competed the course with a much better understanding of techniques that would make me a better upland game hunter, which is the purposes of the Wingshooting School. I stayed over an extra day and did a morning quail hunt and an afternoon mixed bag (quail, chukkar, and pheasant) hunt with Jimmy Bryan, the owner of Prairie Wildlife. John also came along to provide some additional instruction, and Cedric from Prairie Wildlife handled the dogs and guided the hunt. I stayed for the third year running at Bryan Lodge, and thoroughly enjoyed the hospitality of Harry Pasisis, the lodge manager and cook. Mr. Bryan was there every day, and I was really treated like one of he family. The food was excellent, and Harry even put together an impromptu Superbowl party for John and me. I highly recommend this school and Prairie Wildlife, and I strongly suggest staying over and extra day and taking advantage of some hunting to put into the field the wingshooting skills acquired during the course.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great trip I took my two sons who were reasonably accomplished shots but had never really quail hunted so they could learn from masters of the sport. And learn they did! The first day of refresher/shooting instruction was particularly valuable no matter what your skill level. John Rano and Todd Rogers were particularly skilled at instruction, gun preparation and handling with lots of helpful direction to make our shooting more effective. The second day in the field with the dogs John and Todd were able to provide immediate feedback and tips after each rise, which was very beneficial to my sons. By the end of the day they had learned more about field quail/wingshooting than many people learn in years of doing it on their own. The folks at the Prairie Wildlife Lodge (Harry, Mary Rogers et al) couldn't have been more accommodating and hospitable. The Lodge is beautiful and comfortable with delicious dining. This is truly a wonderful experience.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding experience We were thrilled with our experience at the Wingshooting School and Prarie Wildlife and highly recommend both to anyone looking to improve their shooting skills at a comfotable and welcoming lodge. Four of us attended the school, three of whom were novices. All instructors worked with groups of three students and we spent time rotating between the instructors. Each one knew their craft and taught us something new or reinforced what another instructor said. They did so in a comfortable and easy going manner which really helped the novices. We also shot plenty, enough so that by the end of each day, we were tired and needed a break. All agreed we improved our shooting skills significantly and left the school with renewed confidence. Prairie Wildlife manager, Harry Pasisis, runs a first class operation. He and his staff could not have been more accommodating. Everything from rooms to meals and service were outstanding. Everyone went out of their way to be of assistance whether it be picking us up at the local airport, running to the drugstore to get a few items we left at home or taking us on a tour of the facilities. In the end, it we had an outstanding weekend of shooting instruction in a completely relaxed environment surrounded by wonderful people.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I'll take a double helping! Wingshooting School. Excellent experience for novice to experienced wingshooters. Instructors are expert in shooting techniques and delivery of information to benefit the students. Great tune-up for a quail hunt on the same property. Prarie Wildlife facilities offer great views from a beautiful lodge and the staff delivers Southern hospitality others just talk about.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best of the South My son (40 years old) and I came to the Orvis school at Prairie Wildlife and stayed for a quail hunt. The school was excellent and the accommodations, food and hunting were the best possible. Every single person was helpful and hospitable. We could not have had a better time. I would recommend this to anyone interested in a first class hunting experience. I am somewhat of a "foodie" and the food was gourmet quality. I loved it.
