Vintage buffalo jacket -
By: SG4Orvis from online
I had high hopes for this jacket, as I had never ordered buffalo leather before. I was very disappointed with it! The jacket I received looked nothing like the one online. It looked really old and wrinkled, like a prune, worse than if you bought one in a flea market or something, and had no liner for warmth. Usually, if a jacket is not practical, it at least looks good, but not this one. It was also cut large around the waist for big guts. Orvis could have gone far with this jacket had it been the right offering.
The Real Deal -
This is the kind of product -- top quality at a fair price -- by which Orvis gained it's reputation. No over-priced lambskin or calfskin can possibly hold up to the use this tough buffalo leather can sustain, and it looks to shed weather better than bullhide. My son loves the coat I bought him -- now if Orvis would only add 3XL sizes to accomodate customers like myself, who have grown over the years, then I'd get one too!
Not up to Orvis standards -
Unfortunately, this jacket had too many problems with fit and finish. It was returned the same day it arrived. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone.
Even Better Than Hoped For -

I had to tell you how happy you have made my husband. He is 5"7" and the jacket falls at a length he loves. So often jackets are too long on him. He ordered a size medium although he has a small frame, because he has wide shoulders, so the bottom happens to fall a little away from his waist. But the overall fit is satisfactory. For most men, I believe it would fit true to size. Also the adjustable snap waistband is a plus. The lines of the jacket are neat. Nothing cluttered or flashy about it. My husband also loves the deep inside pocket where items will be secure. The collar can be turned down, though he prefers to leave it up. As for the lining, it has a soft, comfortable, cotton-like feel, definitely not the cheap, shiny acetate that many jackets have. The jacket has a nice weight to it, and a really nce broken in feel. The leather smell is very strong, something I personally would not want. But for a man? I think that is part of the lure of this jacket. My husband can't stop trying it on!
not what I expected -
My main issue with the jacket was the way it was cut. I am just over 6 feet, but the jacket was too short, especially in the front, so it didn't reach my belt. Although I am not thin (38+ waist), the jacket was so full at the bottom that it hung away from me in the front.. The distressed leather needs some breaking in, but would be very nice after it was worn a while.
The quality and fit is excellent and true to size. The lower half of both sleeves was very wrinkled which was not shown in the picture.
